Did you enjoy it? Did you make a chocolate flower? Did you make a message in a bottle and try needle felting? Did you pick up a cute knitted handmade mummy for £2.50? Did you buy an amazing, unique, original wreath for Christmas? Did you have a go at making a free envelope? Did you burn your fingers on the wax seals even?
The Craftaway this week was a fantastic community event where local craftspeople sold their handmade items and we gave visitors a chance to try some small crafts for themselves. Below is a gallery of things on the stalls but let me tell you about the makes we had and a bit about the event.
We had 5 things for people to make for free.
Penn was showing people how to make a wax seal which is not as easy as it looks.
Tiana was showing people how to make a chocolate flower which they could keep and take home for free. It was lovely to see lots of people walking about with their flower.
Nicola was showing people how to make a message in a bottle.
Elena was helping people make envelopes.
Lorraine showed people how to do needle felting and people made hearts and some other shapes.
We had free prosecco and free tea and coffee.
We also had all the workshops that we have coming up laid out so people could see what they would be making.
The stalls were packed with goodies.
Everything was run by people from Made In Molesey. We had no commercial stalls added in to pad it out so it really was a local Surrey event with local makers. Some people were selling for the first time.
Boomerang bags came. Boomerang bags is a global grass roots movement, connecting and empowering local communities to tackle plastic pollution at its source. Communities make
fabric bags from donated material. These are then distributed to local shops to use instead of plastic bags. They are encouraging people to make and were showing people how to use a sewing machine (again for free) to try to get across how easy it is. They really need lots making for Magical Molesey this year as they are trying to make it plastic bag free, so if you want to help, they need you. #boomerangbagsmolesey
Look them up for more info (if anyone reading this has a link I could put, please email it to firstname.lastname@example.org and I will add it)
The workshops were on display. Coming up we have diamond painting which is already fully booked, then clay gift tags. In December it is these snowflake decorations for £8.
Next year we have the chunky pen pot, the jar sconce and then felt flowers.
All workshops are listed here on our website.
I will put all the photos on facebook later this week as there are too many to share here. I took this fellow home with me. Hope you got some great original things you love too.
Coming up we have our usual monthly craft club this coming Friday 11th October, the second Friday of the month as always. Bring your own craft and hang out with us. £2 to come. It is all run by volunteers, this isn't a business, it is a community hub bringing people who like to make together via St Mary's Church.
We also have prayer and craft at 6pm on Saturday 12th October 2019 for 1 hour in the Bell Tower as part of 24-7 Prayer. Enter by the side Bell Tower door.
On Sunday 20th October 2019 we start Sunday Sanctuary. Email for info email@example.com or DM us on Instagram or Facebook
We also have the team repurposing the church kneelers doing a day together to finish that project.
And we want to go to an Art Night in Vauxhall together. I went recently and painted a London Skyline which was at the Craftaway and you probably saw it. We are going to go again and
paint a Tiger. It is £34 and you will have to book yourself. News coming soon about what date we are going and how to book. Art Night is a business and is run by artists who teach you to paint a specific painting. All materials are included. It is in no way connected to Made In Molesey, it is just that one of us went and liked it so are sharing it with the group and making a group trip. That will be put on the Events page in due course, or just talk to someone about it at the monthly craft event.
Thank you all for coming. We had over 200 people. 60 glasses of prosecco, lots of tea and coffee and a huge amount of love and friendship and needle felted hearts.
